Okay, this is an open call for help from our readers! A good friend of mine is in the process of adopting a foster child just under 3-years old. He has had zero no potty-training up until now but the Child Protective Services approved child care facility requires him to be trained by three! She is implementing their advised method (take him every 20-minutes) but he has no interest, doesn’t mind being wet, etc… While I was there for a play-date they went four times. The last time to the potty his diaper was wet and full! I know that traditionally it is best to wait until a child is ready, but unfortunately that’s not really an option. Ideas, anyone? Please!

Today, I went to the beach with my children. I found a sea shell and gave it to my 4 year old
daughter and said “You can hear the ocean if you put this to your ear.” She placed the
shell to her ear and screamed. There was a hermit crab inside and it
pinched her ear. She never wants to go back! LoL I know this is completely off topic but
I had to tell someone!

I really think that potty training has to be something that the child wants to do. This being said you could offer incentives for going potty. Small toy or a sticker chart and when they get 10-20 stickers they get a toy. Let the child know that going potty on the toilet is normal. Bring it to their attention when you are going to use the toilet, or when other children are going to use the toilet. I also found that using diapers was ineffective. The child needs to know they are wet. I used either thick training pants with the vinyl liners or Pampers makes a pull up that feels cold when they are wet. Good Luck!
